Abstract:

PURPOSE: To maintain a stable performance for a long time with a simple construction without deteriorating a multi-nozzle function by applying a thermal energy according to image information to air in a pressure chamber connecting to ink nozzles.

CONSTITUTION: When a control signal based on image information to be recorded is applied from an image controller 15 to a heating resistor 13 of a thermal energy applying means 2, the heating resistor 13 generates heat, and air in a pressure chamber 5 is subjected to the thermal energy to be heated. The heated air expands with the temperature increase of the air according to the amount and speed in applying the thermal energy to make the inside of the pressure chamber 5 a high pressure. The high-pressure air presses an ink I held in an ink nozzle 3 through a pressure transmission path 10 to extrude the ink I from the ink nozzle 3 to form an ink liquid column. At this time, the application of the control signal to the heating resistor 13 has been already completed, and the air in the pressure chamber 5 begins shrinking. The ink liquid column is cut at a point a distant apart from its tip end to produce an ink drip.
