PURPOSE: To fix color ink at a high speed to prevent bleeding by a method wherein recording is made by overlapping colorless ink containing a penetrant and ink of three tints, i.e., cyan, magenta, and yellow.

CONSTITUTION: When a recording head 65 moves to a recording start position from a home position, a cap 62 and a blade 61 are disposed on the same position as a wiping position. As a result, the delivery port surface of the recording head 65 can be also wiped with the movement. The recording head 65 is moved in a recording area for conducting recording and moved to the home position adjacent to the recording area at a prescribed interval. The surface is further wiped with this movement. When five kinds of ink, i.e., black, cyan, magenta, yellow, and colorless ink, is used for recording, recording heads 81, 82, 83, 84 delivering the four color ink and a recording head 85 delivering colorless ink are provided for delivering recording ink of every color in accordance with recording signals.
