To prevent a holding surface from being stained while maintaining a striking precision of ink.
The inkjet printer 1 includes a holding mechanism 41 which holds a paper P sent out from a paper feeding part 15, a conveyance mechanism 51 with conveyance belts 58 and 59 which convey the paper P onto the holding surface 46b, a solenoid which moves the conveyance belts 58 and 59, an inkjet head 2 which ejects the ink to the held paper P, a head moving mechanism 70 which moves the inkjet head 2 in a subscan direction, and a controller 90 which controls their actions. The controller 90 moves the conveyance belts 58 and 59 to a conveyance position by driving the solenoid when the paper P is to be conveyed onto the holding surface 46b. Moreover, the controller 90 moves the conveyance belts 58 and 59 from the conveyance position to a retreat position by driving the solenoid after the paper P is conveyed onto the holding surface 46b and before printing is carried out to the paper P.
