In an input device 10 for a vehicle including a position detection part 21 for outputting a detection signal and a controller (control part) 52 for receiving the detection signal, a position detection part 21 to be operated by a driver is arranged in the neighborhood of the edge side of the input device 10 for a vehicle, and a contact operation surface 15a on which a driver performs a contact operation is formed as the edge face of an operation member 15 of the position detection part 21. Thus, it is possible for the driver to operate the input device for a vehicle with the finger while gripping a steering handle. Also, the operating position of the driver is determined on the basis of a detection signal from the position detection part 21 by the controller 52 so that it is possible to detect various operations, and to operate various pieces of equipment.
