PURPOSE: To provide an inspecting device for prints which can inspect precisely printing quality without being influenced by a substantial problem of a printer.
CONSTITUTION: Paper to be printed P is illuminated with a light source 11, and the reflected light is separated into a light in a visible area and a light in a near infrared radiation area with an optical filter 13. The separated light in the visible area is converted to an electric signal with a photoelectric conversion element 17 to be visible area information. The separated light in the near infrared radiation area is converted to an electric signal with a photoelectric conversion element 15 to be near infrared radiation area information. A first standard pattern prepared by information of only visible area light component of regular prints and a second standard pattern prepared by information of only near infrared radiation area light of the regular prints are stored in a memory 25. A CPU 24 subtracts the near infrared radiation area information from the visible area information, compares this operated result with a first reference pattern in e memory 25, and compares the near infrared radiation area information with a second reference pattern in the memory 25. Printing quality is judged thereby.
