To mark the positions the sizes of fine defects on a mirror finish body by inspecting the defects with a less number of cameras by discriminating the sizes of defects larger than the resolution of the cameras from numbers of bits and those of defects smaller than the resolution from peak values and measuring the distances to the defects from the reference line of the mirror finish body from time differences.
A camera 33 for reflection receives the irregularly reflected light of light emitted from a bar-like light source 37 for reflection for irradiating the surface of a mirror finish body at a prescribed angle and converts the light into electric signals. A camera 35 for transmission and reflection receives the regularly reflected light and transmitted light of light rays emitted from a bar-like light source 38 for reflection and a light source 39 for transmission provided on both sides of the mirror finish body for irradiating both surfaces of the mirror finish body at prescribed angles and converts the light into electric signals. Then the position of defects on the mirror finish body are decided by discriminating the sizes of defects larger than the resolution of the cameras 33 and 35 from numbers of bits and those of defects smaller than the resolution from peal values and measuring the distances to the defects from the reference line of the mirror finish body and prescribed marks are printed on the positions of the defects.
