Title:
INSULATING MATERIAL FOR MOLTEN STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH06226410
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an insulating material having an excellent heat insulating effect of molten steel and excellent workability by making the insulating material consist of respectively specific concn. ranges of slaked lime or carbide slag, cement and magnesia and forming the insulating material of their respective moldings molded to the primary particle sizes of specific values or below.

CONSTITUTION: This insulating material contains 10 to 40wt.% slaked lime or carbide slag, 30 to 60% cement and 10 to 50% magnesia. The insulating material consists of their moldings molded to ≤1mm primary particle sizes. The slaked lime consists of calcium hydroxide used as the insulating material. Calcium silicate components, etc., are provided as the cement which includes Portland cement, etc., and acts as the binder for the moldings. The magnesia has a high m.p., does not contaminate the molten steel and is used as the insulating material. The magnesia includes magnesia clinker, etc. As a result, the excellent heat insulating effect of the molten steel is obtd. and the generation of power dust is lessened. In addition, the contamination with the carbon, silicon and hydrogen in the steel is not admitted and this insulating material is applicable to any kinds of the molten steel.
