Abstract:
PURPOSE: To preheat intake air by utilizing cooling water by simple constitution without providing a particular preheating part by forming at least partly a bypass return passage for returning the cooling water from a water jacket to a water pump in a cylinder itself in the vicinity of an intake air port.
CONSTITUTION: Cooling water is fed from a water pump 18 into a water jacket, not shown in the drawing, formed in a cylinder 2. Cooling water in a cover case 22 for covering an outlet 21 formed in a cylinder head 4 is returned from a main return passage 25 to the water pump 18 and further to provide a radiator 27 in a main return pipe 26. Further, the cooling water in the cover case 22 is returned to the water pump 18 by a bypass return passage 29. In the above constitution, the first passage 30 of the bypass return passage 29 is formed in the cylinder 2 itself in the vicinity of the lower of an intake air port 8 in the cylinder 2. Fuel injected from a fuel injection valve is heated while preheating intake air in the intake air port 8 by cooling water passing through the first passage 30.
