To reduce fuel consumption in the low load and low speed range of an engine by making the relationship between the turning quantity and intake volume of a throttle valve in a nonlinear state with a simple constitution in an intake device for a direct injection engine in which a throttle body device adjusting an opening area of an air intake passage with the throttle valve is connected to an intake port of a cylinder head with an injector directly injecting fuel of a quantity corresponding to the turning quantity of the throttle valve to a combustion chamber being arranged, through an intake pipe.

The intake port 23 is formed to have a necessary and sufficient opening area for sucking in the amount of air necessary for the maximum output of the engine. The air intake passage 142 of the throttle body device 140 is formed to have the opening area necessary for sucking in the necessary amount of air for the maximum output of the engine in a state that the plate-like throttle valve 145 turning from a fully closed position to a fully opened position is positioned at an intermediate position between the fully closed position and the fully opened position.
