Abstract:

PURPOSE: To smoothly propagate a positive pressure wave through a communicating passage and through between independent intake passages in a multiple cylinder engine intake system having a butterfly shutter valve in the vicinity of the junction of each independent intake passage with a communicating passage which mutually communicates independent intake passages on the way.

CONSTITUTION: A communicating passage consists of a second volume chamber 8b and a second passage 13. A shutter valve 14 is installed in the vicinity of the junction of the second passage 13 with an independent intake passage 6. The shutter valve 14 turns, when it opens, in such a direction that the downstream edge of the independent intake passage of the shutter valve 14 moves toward the independent passage 6.
