Abstract:
To provide integrated processes that achieve improved carbon efficiency for processes based on coal or biomass gasification or steam methane reforming.SOLUTION: Methods for producing beta propiolactone includes: a step (a) of, in a first reaction zone, contacting an ethylene oxide compound with a syngas stream containing hydrogen and CO in the presence of a carbonylation catalyst to produce the beta propiolactone, wherein the beta propiolactone integrates CO with carbon derived from ethylene oxide, one of ethylene oxide and CO has a biobased content of more than 0%, and the other thereof has a biobased content of less than 100%; and a step (b) of recovering an upgraded gas stream from the first reaction zone, wherein the upgraded gas stream has a higher hydrogen-to-CO ratio than the starting syngas stream.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
