Title:
INTER-CAR DISTANCE CONTROL DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3246721
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make gradual the speed change when another vehicle plunges to ahead of the driver's own vehicle.
SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance control device has a judging part 21 which judges whether the foregoing vehicle is another one which has plunged between the driver's own vehicle and the previously foregoing vehicle. If there is no plunge, the second setting part 22 uses the set relative distance Dc as the target relative distance Da, where Dc is set by the first setting part 20 corresponding to the running speed of the driver's own vehicle. If there is plunging of any other vehicle, the second setting part 22 uses the distance for plunging as the target relative distance Da, where the plunge distance is determined from the relative distance DR sensed by a relative distance sensing circuit 14, and the distance Da is elongated periodically so that convergence is made to the set relative distance Dc. A control part 23 controls the running speed of the driver's own vehicle so that it follows up after the foregoing vehicle while the set target relative distance is kept. Thereby the speed change among of the driver's own vehicle is lessened when another vehicle is going to plunge, and it is possible to prevent giving a sense of discomfort to the existing situation formed by the driver's own vehicle and the following vehicle in between.
