Abstract:

To provide a wavelength conversion circuit used in a wavelength multiplexed cross-connection in large capacity optical wave network communication.

This wavelength conversion circuit of a phase modulation system is composed of a semiconductor light amplifier and an interferometer optical waveguide, the one or two optical paths of an interferometer are constituted of the semiconductor light amplifier and an optical waveguide and the two optical paths are coupled by one or two optical waveguide directional couplers 15. Further, in order to make external signal light incident only on one optical path provided with the semiconductor light amplifier 14 of the two optical paths, one of the optical paths is provided with optical waveguide circuitry associated with a wavelength multiplexer/demultiplexer 16.
