The trimming element (1) includes a base element (2) made of a hard plastic material, a soft skin (4), and a form layer (6), and has a main area (8) and a peripheral area (10). The main area (10) includes a termination area (16) in which the base area has a virtually constant thickness (e16) and the form layer (6) does not present, and a joint area (18) which is separated from the edge (12) of the base element (2) and the edge (14) of the skin (4) and in which the base element (2) has a thickness (e18) smaller than the thickness (e16) the base element (2) retains in the termination area (16). The above trimming element is for use in interior trimming of a motor vehicle.
