Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an interlayer coupler capable of being easily manufactured by a simple structure, and achieved with a practical length.SOLUTION: An interlayer coupler 100 couples between layers by propagating light distribution transited from a first waveguide 10 to a second waveguide 20. The first waveguide 10 and the second waveguide 20 include a first taper 11 whose width narrows from the waveguide toward a tip and a second taper 12 that diminishes from a base of the first taper 11 toward a tip in a more gradual taper shape, respectively. The first taper 11 includes a taper shape of a high refractive index. The second taper 12 includes a taper shape that gradually varies the refractive index based on the execution refractive index lowered by the first taper 11.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
