Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compd. having a large specific surface area and useful as a photocatalyst by intercalating an oxide selected from SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 into the interlayers of a specified layered titanium oxide and carrying out interlayer crosslinking.
SOLUTION: One or more oxides selected from SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 are intercalated into the interlayers of a layered titanium oxide represented by the formula Ti3-xMxO7 or Ti4-xMxO9 and interlayer crosslinking is carried out. In the formulae, M is Ti, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni or Cu and (x) is 0-0.5. The crosslinked body is produced as follows; an alkali metallic salt of a layered titanium oxide, preferably Na or K salt is treated with an acid such as hydrochloric acid to protonate interlayer alkali metallic ions by substitution by H ions, an org. amine such as hexylamine is intercalated to carry out interlayer expansion and then one or more of alkoxides or hydroxides of Si, Al and Ti convertible into SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2 by heating are intercalated and calcined.
