Abstract:

To provide an internal combustion engine including an exhaust recirculation system that can improve intake air filling rate and exhaust recirculation rate by a relatively simple structure.

The internal combustion engine 10 includes an EGR passage 46, an exhaust-side EGR valve 50 an intake-side EGR valve 96, and an ECU 60 that controls an opening degree of the EGR valve. A length of the intake passage from an intake air converging section to an intake valve between an intake system and the EGR passage, and a length of the EGR passage from the intake air converging section to the exhaust-side EGR valve are set to obtain air column resonance when the exhaust-side EGR valve is fully opened. In a partial load operation in a predetermined engine speed area, opening degrees of the exhaust-side EGR valve and the intake-side EGR valve are controlled so that exhaust gas is recirculated into the intake system. When the partial load operation is accelerated and shifted to a non-EGR operation, the intake-side EGR valve is temporarily closed, and the exhaust-side EGR valve is fully opened and the intake-side EGR valve is fully opened immediately after fully closing the exhaust-side EGR valve.
