To provide an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing the homogenization of air-fuel mixture in a combustion chamber when performing stratified charge combustion.
The internal combustion engine includes two intake valves 18-1 and 18-2 provided in each combustion chamber, injection valves 16-1 and 16-2 provided upstream of the respective two intake valves, a partition 12 extending in a direction perpendicular to a crank shaft for partitioning the combustion chamber into a first region 101 where the first intake valve 18-1 out of the two intake valves is provided and a second region 102 where the second intake valve 18-2 is provided, and an ignition plug 14 provided in the second region. The injection amount of each injection valve is controlled so that the injection amount of the second injection valve 16-2 provided on the side of the second intake valve 18-2 is greater than the injection amount of the first injection valve 16-1 provided on the side of the first intake valve 18-1.
