Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve fuel consumption by accelerating combustion of air fuel mixture.SOLUTION: A top surface 18A of a piston 18 includes a recess 29 and an intake-side squish 30. The recess 29 is opened upward at the center of the top surface 18A so as to surround an ignition point P1 of a spark plug PL in a state where the piston 18 is positioned near top dead center. A bottom surface of the recess 29 is formed higher than the intake-side squish 30. An intake-side edge 38A of the recess 29 is formed lower than an exhaust-side edge 38B. During compression stroke, a capacity is reduced between the intake-side squish 30 and a lower surface 16A of a cylinder head 16 facing the intake-side squish 30 to produce a squish flow S that makes air fuel mixture therebetween flow in toward the recess 29. In addition, the intake-side squish is formed of a plane orthogonal to a center axis Op of the piston 18.
