In the ion generator, needle electrodes 1, 2 are arranged in the X direction while directing the tips in the Z direction, and are projected from the housing 10. The tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 are covered with a protective cover 12 which is provided with holes 13a, 13b so that the tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 can be seen from the Z direction, and provided with an aperture so that the tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 can be seen from the Y direction. The tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 are arranged in a region connecting the holes 13a, 13b and the aperture linearly, so that they are visible when viewing the aperture through the holes 13a, 13b. Consequently, ions generated at the tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 can be discharged efficiently to the outside of the housing 10. Furthermore, a user can be protected against touching the tips of the needle electrodes 1, 2 and injured.
