Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an ionic compound which is useful as a promoter for an olefin polymerization catalyst and which, when used together with a metallocene in the polymerization of an olefin through a slurry, vapor-phase, or other process, attains high catalytic activity, gives a polymer having satisfactory powder properties, and is effective in eliminating or significantly diminishing polymer deposition on the reactor.
SOLUTION: This compound is represented by the formula [BR1R2R3(R4-H)]- [D]+ (wherein B is boron; R1, R2 and R3 may be the same or different and each is pentafluorophenyl; R4 is a 1-20C (substituted) phenylene; H is hydrogen; and D is a monovalent cation, such as carbonium, anilinium, ammonium, ferrocenium, phosphonium, sodium, potassium, or lithium).
