PURPOSE: To provide the iron lid opening/closing instrument which can push up the iron lid of a weighty matter even if the whole length is short and can conduct the work of opening with a short movement distance and less action.

CONSTITUTION: An iron lid opening/closing instrument 1 possesses a reverse T shaped member 3 provided projectingly at one end portion of a rod material 2. The reverse T shaped member 3 consists of a lateral material 3a whose length is long enough to be inserted into the cutout portion of an iron lid; and a lengthwise material 3b to be fixed at a center portion, and the lengthwise material 3b and the rod material 2 meet at right angles with each other. The rod material 2 extends to the back side of the lengthwise material 3b and forms a rod material fulcrum portion 7. The rod material fulcrum portion 7 has a slope portion and a curved surface portion, and a flat iron lid support surface 3c is formed at the lateral material 3a. When the slope portion is butted against the receiving frame upper surface of the iron lid, an iron lid support surface 3c comes into surface contact with the iron lid back in the vicinity of the center of the cutout portion.
