PURPOSE: To facilitate the formation of a Japanese lacquer coat of a character, pattern or the like on a transferred image receiving material by preparing the title composition by mixing natural Japanese lacquer with a hard resin the amount of which is at least 5wt.% based on the natural Japanese lacquer.

CONSTITUTION: Natural Japanese lacquer is mixed with a hard resin the amount of which is at least 5wt.%, preferably 5W40wt.%, based on the natural Japanese lacquer to prepare a Japanese lacquer composition for a transfer foil. The hard resin may be turpentine, a rosin-modified resin, a phenol resin, an acrylic resin, a cellulosic resin or the like. The composition may contain a coloring material such as an iron powder and a pigment, a natural oil such as tung oil, or a film-forming extender such as an alkyd resin, in an amount of about 2W60wt.%. In using the composition, the composition is applied to the entire surface of a paper form material to produce a Japanese lacquer transfer material.
