To provide a method for producing a fiber of a root of Pueraria lobata by utilizing the root of the Pueraria lobata containing much hemicellulose, especially the waste root of the Pueraria lobata becoming an industrial waste, and to provide the fiber of the root of the Pueraria lobata obtained by the production method.

The method for producing the fiber of the root of the Pueraria lobata includes using the root of the Pueraria lobata or the waste root of the Pueraria lobata obtained in a production process of arrowroot starch as a raw material, and carrying out an alkali treatment (1) for separation or preparation of the hemicellulose contained in the raw material and/or an oxidation treatment (2) as a removal treatment of lignin contained in the raw material to afford a whitened fiber. In another embodiment, the method includes carrying out an enzyme treatment (3) for separation or preparation of the lignin and/or the hemicellulose contained in the raw material to afford the whitened fiber.
