According to the key managing method for storing the single or the plurality of keys K1 to KN in the key box 2 and managing the keys, identification tag devices 3-1 to 3-N of the keys K1 to KN have identification codes allotted thereto, respectively, as electrical information, and the identification codes are electrically read on a non-contact basis. Thus when absence information of the key from the key box 2 is acquired based on the read identification codes, and if it is determined that absence of the key continues over a predetermined time period, based on the absence information, an absence warning is output.
