A plurality of individual fiber plates equal in thickness are adjacently arranged to form the large area fiber plate, thus offering a light guide face having an area larger than that of the light guide face of the individual fiber plate. A plurality of individual fiber plates comprise aggregates of optical fibers having parallel axes with each other, and the side faces of a plurality of individual fiber plates are connected together so that the axes of the optical fibers are made parallel with each other.
