PURPOSE: To provide a method capable of arbitrarily selecting the color of marking, by forming two upper and lower film layers to the surface of a solid and subsequently evaporating only the upper film layer by laser beam.
CONSTITUTION: White paint is applied to a steel plate 1 to form the first film layer 2 and black paint is applied to said layer 2 to form the second film layer 3. The second film layer 3 is irradiated with laser beam using a laser marking apparatus to evaporate a part of the second film layer 3 so as to expose the white paint of the first film layer 2 only at the evaporated part 4 to complete marking. As compared with a conventional method, sharp marking is obtained and there is a beneficial point capable of freely selecting the color of the marking.
