This latch device provides an operation lever 2 on an end cover 7 of a drawer where a pivot 27, which is provided on the inner surface of the end cover 9, is arranged to bear the spindle 26 of the operation lever 25 while an energizing arm 39 is projected out from this spindle 26 basically in the radial direction, thereby turning the energizing arm 39 in a specified turned operation area A with an operation force added to the operation lever so that a latch claw 34 may be energized. In this case, the cross section of the pivot 27 and the cross section of the spindle 26 supported on the pivot 27 are shaped so that the spindle 26 may be mountable on the pivot 27 basically from the radial directional in a specified mounting turning posture B and the mounted spindle 26 is turned up to the turning operation area A. In this state, the spindle 26 is set so that it may not be removed from the pivot 27.
