PURPOSE: To easily manufacture the surface acoustic wave filter with a narrow pass band, excellent characteristic and small insertion loss by forming a capacitor between ground and a cascade connection part of the lateral coupling duplex mode surface acoustic wave filter.

CONSTITUTION: As shown in a cascade connection part of a 1st lateral coupling duplex mode surface acoustic wave element 5 and a 2nd lateral coupling duplex mode surface acoustic wave element 6, a ground electrode 8 is arranged in the vicinity of the outside of a common bar of each interdigital electrode 2 (side without interdigital teeth) connected to a cascade connection section 4 of the interdigital electrodes 2 of the 1st and 2nd lateral coupling duplex mode surface acoustic wave elements 5, 6 to form a capacitance with respect to the common bar 7. The capacitance depends on the opposed length and the interval between the common bar 7 and the ground electrode 8. That is, the capacitance is increased by selecting the opposed length to be larger and the interval to be smaller and conversely the capacitance is decreased by selecting the opposed length to be smaller and the interval to be larger. Thus, the capacitance is selected by the arrangement of the common bar 7 and the ground electrode 8.
