Abstract:

To provide a latex polymer and a water-based coating, which have good favorable freeze-thawing stability, open time, staining resistance, low-temperature film formation, foaming resistance, blocking resistance, adhesiveness, sensitivity of water, and low VOC content.

A latex polymer and a water-based coating comprise at least one latex polymer derived from at least one monomer which is copolymerized or mixed with an alkoxylated compound (e.g., an alkoxylated tristyrylphenol or an alkoxylated tributylphenol). There is also provided a water-based paint comprising at least one latex polymer, at least one pigment, water, and at least one freeze-thawing additive. Typically, the amount of the freeze-thawing additive is an amount that is more than about 1.3 mass%, an amount that is more than about 2 mass%, an amount that is more than about 4 mass%, an amount that is more than about 7.5 mass%, an amount that is more than about 10 mass%, or an amount that is more than about 20 mass%, of the polymer.
