To provide a leather coating composition that can form, on the surface of leather, a coating layer having excellent water resistance, stain removability and stain resistance.SOLUTION: A leather coating composition contains a particle containing a first polymer having a first repeat unit derived from an unsaturated carboxylate having an alkyl group with 4 or more carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group with 4 or more carbon atoms, and a liquid medium, with the content of the first repeat unit being 10 mass% or more relative to all the repeat units constituting the first polymer.SELECTED DRAWING: None
