To provide a lens operating device capable of preventing the trouble of an operating member to enable the device to easily recognize that a moving lens reaches a starting end or a terminating end by the change of a load imposed on the operation of the operating member, vibration, sound and light, etc., without checking the operating member driving the moving lens.
When a focusing ring 28A is operated rotatively, a CPU 66 detects the rotational angle of the lens 28A by using an encoder 68. The CPU 66 outputs a control signal to a motor driving circuit 72 based on the detected rotational angle and moves a focusing lens 52 by using a motor 76. When the CPU 66 detects that the lens 52 reaches a closest end or an infinite end, it outputs a driving signal to a driving means 84 to make a load imposed on the rotation of the ring 28A heavy. Thus, a cameraman detects that the ring 28A reaches a checking end.
