PURPOSE: To make the construction mechanically strong and improve accuracy of printed letter by providing freely rotatably a medium thickness detecting letter printing mechanism separated from a paper feeding mechanism, which uses the stay shaft of a printer unit as a letter printing member for detecting printing medium thickness.
CONSTITUTION: A stay shaft that consists of a plate made of a strong metallic material with almost L-shaped section is fixedly installed between guide frames 21 and 21. The said stay shaft is used as a medium thickness detecting letter printing member 21, and on the other hand a medium thickness detecting letter printing mechanism 20 is formed by holding a guide frame rotatably with a shaft 29 as center relative to a paper feed platen section with a spring 28 energized. The above mechanism is used, so that its medium thickness detecting letter printing member 25 is made to abut the surface of a medium 27 on a platen 26 during printing, and the distance C between a print head 24 that is guided by shafts 22 and 22' and the medium 27 is kept at a specified distance for accurate letter printing.
