PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To directly and easily convert parallel signal lights being spatially one dimensional or two dimensional multiple channels into the serial signal light of such a high bit rate as to be equal to or higher than 1T bits/s.
SOLUTION: Line shaped optical switches 30 are arranged on optical paths of parallel signal lights 1 by inclining its line direction with respect to the progress direction of the parallel signal lights 1 and control lights 2 synchronized with the parallel signal lights 1 are made incident on the optical switches 30 by making its progress direction vertical to be line direction of the optical switches 30. The optical switches 30 are made to transmit signal light 1A-1F of the parallel signal lights 1 with transmissivities of not lower than a prescribed value by making the switches in transmission states only at the moment the control lights 2 are irradiated on the switches. As a result, respective one parts of the signal lights 1A-1F are cut out as output lights 3A-3F whose pulse time widths are short from areas Wp-Wu of the optical switches 30. Thus, a multiplexed serial signal light 3 is obtained by converging out-put lights 3A-3F while allowing them to have a prescribed time difference in mutual intervals by a converging optical system 20 and an optical waveguide 20.
