To make adjustable the direction of the optical axis of a projected beam emitted from a light transmitting element by allowing the positional adjustment of the light transmitting element to be performed even after covering a holder with a casing.
Light transmitting and receiving elements 15 and 16 for performing an object detection are mounted on the single holder 11. The holder 11 is covered with a front casing 12 and a rear casing 13. A back opening 12d for exposing the back surface of the holder 11 and a bottom opening for exposing the bottom surface of the holder are formed in the front casing 12. The light transmitting element 15 is positionally adjustably mounted on the back surface of the holder 11 so as to make variable the direction of optical axis of the beam emitted from the light transmitting element 15 through the back opening 12d. A circuit board 23 is mounted on the bottom surface of the holder 11. Accordingly, the optical axis of the beam emitted from the light transmitting element 15 can be adjusted through the back opening after the holder 11 is covered with the front casing, and the state of connection to the circuit board 23 can be also adjusted through the bottom opening. After these adjustments, the back opening 12d and the bottom opening are blocked with the rear casing 13.
