Title:
LIGHTING METHOD OF HIGH-PRESSURE MERCURY LAMP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3125769
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting method of high-pressure discharge lamps having mercury particles all over electrodes at starts of lighting, that can ensure their transition to a stable lighting state free of quenching when they are lighted.
SOLUTION: In an initial lighting phase, the electrical polarity applied to each electrode 4 is changed over in a shorter period or before mercury particles sticking to the electrode 4 to from a discharge point vapors out with the result that the discharge point is shifted, until the electrode 4 has a thermal spot to provide a stable discharge upon which the lighting is ensured by a preset frequency or by a direct current.
