Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain directivity of light, and simultaneously to aim both uniformity of an illuminance distribution and improvement of a light efficiency in a lighting system used in a liquid crystal projector or the like.
SOLUTION: An optical beam from a light source lamp 21, reflected by a reflector 22, is converted to an optical beam having a rectangular section shape by elements 24, 25. The optical beam, uniformed by the shape conversion, is space-divided into four, that is, upper and lower, and light and left, optical beams by a primary prism lens 27 having four divided prism faces, and the divided optical beams are focussed on four divided prism faces of a secondary prism lens 28, respectively. The four divided optical beams are deflected by the prism lens 28, and then transferred on a liquid crystal panel 31 through a collimator lens 30 and piled up. The optical beams, uniformed by the optical- beam shape conversion, are furthermore divided and piled up, to thereby enable to maintain directivity of the light and simultaneously to aim both uniformity of an illuminance distribution and improvement of a light utilization efficiency.
