Abstract:
To form by a simple construction the black background for correcting the sensitivity of an infrared detector without using a drive mechanism.SOLUTION: According to a polarization controller pertaining to an embodiment, a polarization controller for limiting the polarization plane of incident light is arranged on the optical axis of an infrared detector that detects an infrared-ray target image, first and second polar screens are arranged on the optical axis so that the polarization planes intersect each other at right angles, and a Faraday rotator for shutting incident light off as the polarization plane rotates due to Faraday effects in accordance with the strength of magnetic force is arranged between the first and second polar screens. When correcting the sensitivity of the infrared detector, the strength of magnetic force acting upon the Faraday rotator is controlled by the controller and incident light from the first polar screen is shut off, whereby the black background of the infrared detector is formed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
