To provide a linear compressor whose efficiency is increased and whose manufacture is simplified.
This linear compressor comprises prismlike inner yokes 10 which are made by stacking thin plates 11, outer yokes 13 which are made by stacking thin plates 12 and provided with two slots cut away in the direction of stacking the thin plates, coils 23 which wind on central magnetic poles among three magnetic poles of the respective outer yokes 13 to form different magnetic poles in alternate order, a cylinder 2 which is mounted to a base 22 so as to be located in the middle of both the inner yokes, a movable section 24 which holds a pair of flat permanent magnets 25, 26 magnetized in the direction of the inner yokes 10 and the outer yokes 12 opposed to each other, at predetermined spaces in cavities between the inner yokes 10 and the outer yokes 12 so that the magnetized direction is reversed, a piston 3 which is disposed to the front-end of a shaft integrated with the movable section 24 via a movable section supporting member and inserted into the cylinder 2, and a spring 9 which is connected with the shaft.
