In a shaft type linear motor where a coil 3 travels in the axial direction of a shaft-shaped magnet 1 by the axial driving force generated in a coil 3, based on the mutual action between a current and a magnetic field by making a current flow to the coil 3 so that it may cross the magnetic flux generated from a plurality of permanent magnets constituting the shaft-shaped magnet 1, lip seals 5 are attached to both ends of the coil 3, and their free ends are slidably brought into contact with the periphery of the shaft-shaped magnet 1 so that the foreign matter may not enter between the coil 3 and the shaft-shaped magnet 1.
