PURPOSE: To prolong the lining life of the converter by lining the basic refractory bricks containing the specific amount of carbon material on the inside surface of the charging side and turnnion side of the converter and lining synthetic magdolo clinker refractory bricks for the other portions.

CONSTITUTION: The refractory bricks composed of carbon; 3W40wt% and the rest basic refractories are lined on the charging side and trunnion side of the inside surface of the converter, these being subjected to heaviest damages among said linings. Other portions are lined with the basic refractory bricks compound with synthetic magdolo clinker followed by firing. For the above-mentioned refractory bricks composed of carbon-basic refractories, natural graphite, electrode scraps, petroleum coke, casting coke, etc. are used as carbon materials and magnesia clinkers such as burned magnesia and sea water magnesia and dolomite clinkers are used in combination as basic refractory aggregate. Tar, pitch, resins, etc. as binders are kneaded and the mixture is molded to bricks, after which they are fired at temperature below 1000°C.
