Abstract:
To provide a liquid-absorbing polymer and an essentially transparent gelatinous product.
This liquid-absorbing polymer is produced by saponifying a graft copolymer of a polynitrile such as polyacrylonitrile and a modified starch having a degree of substitution (DS) sufficiently high to essentially suppress the starch-starch interaction in the gelatinous product formed by the mixing of the polymer with a liquid. The gelatinous product is formed from the liquid- absorbing polymer.
