Abstract:
To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent capable of obtaining a highly reliable liquid crystal element which hardly generates an afterimage and can maintain a high voltage holding rate even after long-term driving.SOLUTION: An addition polymer containing a structural unit derived from a monomer (M) having a partial structure (a) obtained by removing one hydrogen atom from the structure represented by the formula (1) is contained in a liquid crystal aligning agent. In the formula (1), A1 and A2 each represents a monovalent group having an aromatic ring and bonded to a nitrogen atom in the formula (1) through the aromatic ring, or A1 and A2 are combined with each other to represent a nitrogen-containing condensed heterocyclic structure formed with the nitrogen atom to which A1 and A2 are bonded. The nitrogen-containing condensed heterocyclic structure has a condensed ring structure in which two aromatic rings are bonded to each other while sharing the nitrogen atom in the formula (1). A3 is the monovalent group having the aromatic ring and bonded to the nitrogen-atom in the formula (1) through the aromatic ring.SELECTED DRAWING: None
