Abstract:
To obtain the subject compound having a broad liquid crystal temperature range, low viscosity, large refractive index anisotropy and large elastic constant ratio K33/K11.
The liquid crystal compound is expressed by formula I (R is a 1-10C alkyl or a 2-10C alkenyl; R' is F, C, OCF3, etc.; A1 and A2 are each independently trans-1,4-cyclohexylene, etc.), e.g. trans-1,4-bis-((E)2-(trans-4- propylcyclohexyl)ethenyl)cyclohexane. A stable liquid crystal composition having high contrast and free from the precipitation of crystal at an extremely low temperature and the development of smectic phase can be produced by using the compound of formula I as the 1st component and the compound of formula II, etc., as the 2nd component.
