Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the disturbance in the orientation of liquid crystal molecules by external force and to inexpensively obtain the liquid crystal device having excellent orientation stability by parallel disposing two sheets of substrates having heat-resistant high-polymer films formed on respective electrode layers in such a manner that these heat-resistant high-polymer films face each other and disposing partition walls consisting of dielectric materials into the liquid crystal layer between both heat- resistant high-polymer films.
CONSTITUTION: The electrodes 3 are formed on the substrate 1 and the heat-resistant high-polymer film 5 is formed thereon. The electrodes 4 and the heat-resistant high- polymer film 6 are formed on another one sheet of the substrate 2. Sealing materials 7, 8 are applied on the circumferences of the substrates 1, 2 and after spacers 10 are sprayed thereon, two sheets of the substrates 1, 2 are stuck to each other. A mixture composed of a liquid crystal and a photosetting resin or precursor of a photopolymerizing high polymer is injected therebetween. An injection port is sealed and the prescribed positions of the surface of the substrate 1 are masked and the substrate is irradiated with light of a wavelength, at which the resin is cured or polymerized to cause phase sepn. in the injected mixture, by which the partition walls by the resin are formed at prescribed intervals in the liquid crystal layer 9.
