PURPOSE: To obtain a satisfactory black-and-white display by performing an orientation processing to the surface of an electrode substrate.

CONSTITUTION: A twist angle of a liquid crystal molecule of a B cell is set to a left twist of about 200l, thickness of a liquid crystal layer 8 is set to about 6μm, a twist angle of a liquid crystal molecule of an A cell is set to a right twist of about 140°, thickness of a liquid crystal crystal layer 7 is about 7μm, and absorption axes of polarizing plate 1, 2 are set so that the external appearance becomes white. In such a way, as a result input by the A cell of an input device, a display of he B cell black, and satisfactory black-and-white display can be obtained.
