To provide a liquid crystal display device having good display qualities.
The liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate having a common electrode formed over a plurality of pixels in an active area to display an image, an insulating film covering the common electrode, and a pixel electrode formed in each pixel above the insulating film, opposing to the common electrode and having a slit formed therein; a second substrate disposed to oppose to the first substrate; a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate; a conductive layer formed on an outer surface of the second substrate and over the entire active area; an optical element including a polarizing plate disposed in the active area above the conductive layer; a conductive adhesive interposed between the conductive layer and the optical element and adhering the conductive layer to the optical element; a pad for a ground potential formed in an extended part of the first substrate extending outward than an end of the second substrate; and a connecting member electrically connecting the conductive layer and the pad.
