PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display medium provided with a magnetic recording part having a display part consisting of a liquid crystal/high polymer combined film (PDLC film) and a magnetic recording part consisting of a magnetic layer over a wide area in arbitrary positions.
CONSTITUTION: A base material 2 is provided thereon with the magnetic layer 5 and the PDLC film 4 so as to be superposed thereon, a conductive layer 3 to be used for electric field impression required for liquid crystal orientation of the PDLC film is formed under the PDLC film. This conductive layer is formed above or under the magnetic layer. The magnetic layer is formed commonly as the conductive layer in some cases. The area resistivity of ≤1012Ω/sq of the conductive layer and the volumetric resistivity of ≤1012Ω.cm of the magnetic layer in the case of forming the magnetic layer between the conductive layer and the PDLC film are good for effective impression of electric fields on the PDLC film. The thickness of the PDLC film to be formed on the magnetic layer is preferably ≤15μm in terms of writing/ reading out adaptability of magnetic recording and the grain size of crystals is preferably ≤10μm for this purpose. The orientation of the liquid crystals is executable by electrode or corona discharge from one surface of the PDLC film side.
