To provide a liquid crystal display which can easily provide desired gamma characteristics and can provide a desirable luminance in a halftone, in matching with the luminance in the environment.
The liquid crystal display is provided with a liquid crystal panel 11, having a plurality of signal lines 17 and a plurality of scanning lines 18; a signal drive part 15 for driving each of the signal lines 17; a scanning drive part 16 for driving each of the scanning lines 18; and a control part 12, having a storage part 20 for storing a plurality of gamma tables, a logic part 24 and a conversion part 27 which is connected to the logic part 24 and converts image input data to image output data, wherein when an electric source is turned on to the control part 12, the control part 12 initializes the logic part 24 or the like and the prescribed gamma table is read from the storage part 20 to the logic part 24.
