To provide a semitransmission type liquid crystal display capable of performing both reflection type liquid crystal display and transmission type liquid crystal display with bright and excellent color reproducibility without using a reflection film having a total reflection property.

A liquid crystal layer 9 is disposed between transparent substrates 1 and 2 disposed opposite to each other and a dielectric multilayered film 10 formed by alternately laminating high refractive index dielectric layers and low refractive index dielectric layers is formed on the transparent substrate 1. The uppermost layer of the dielectric multilayered film 10 is divided into first regions 11 of the high refractive index dielectric layer and second regions 12 of the low refractive index dielectric layer by patterning. Color filters 21a and 21b divided as regions having transmittance different from each other and corresponding to the first and the second regions in an affiliated color part of each pixel are disposed between the dielectric multilayered film 10 and the liquid crystal layer 9.
